The Kings of Ceramic.

Before there was Love Trees. Before there was Nandos there was CDG. The unofficial Kings of Ceramic. It’s what we cut our teeth on, and lived and breathed for over 7 years.

Servicing factories in Asia, Distributors in Australia and Europe and exhibiting in Fairs bi-annually in Canton, Ambiente and Tendence in Frankfurt, we developed thousands (and we’re talking literally thousands) of designs in everything from dolomite, stoneware, porcelain, high impact commercial crockery and bone china. From colourful decorator vases + centre pieces, platters, dinner and serving ware ranges, to beautiful patterns and decals for home and fine dining.

Seasonal, retail brand development with S+P and My Maison in Melbourne, and HDWI in Sydney, many of our designs were either directly developed under contract for various clients or on-sold via our factories in China, to make their way to the shelves of department stores like Myer, David Jones, Freedom, Adairs and many more.

We specialised in modern decorator collections. and developing unique, nested serving solutions, for communal eating and festive occasions, in both single and mixed material products. From metal and dolomite, to Nordic style natural wood combined with matt stoneware, we helped setup unique brand partnerships between design, manufacturers and distributors such as the ‘Spoon’ brand launched in Europe in 2008.

Our ability to understand the way various ceramics are produced and function, enables us to push the boundaries of what’s possible to achieve, in materials and processes that are essentially age old. In an industry, particularly China, that’s crowded and derivative, our partnerships with factories who understood the need for a point of difference, that speaks to western buyers who attend the trade fairs, was fruitful and rewarding.

Today, while our primary focus has shifted to disposable consumables and commercial food franchises, we still maintain these relationships with leading factories in the sector to enable us to bring young designers on board, and get them experimenting and developing their style in a material that’s relatively cheap to mould and produce, often in a commercial environment for the first time. Like your first love, ceramics will always hold a special place at the heart of Cocoon.
